ヨセミテ国立公園ドライブ旅行記へようこそ

このサイトは、私がサンフランシスコに2ヶ月間の出張をしていたときに、約一日半だけ時間に余裕ができたのを利用して、急遽ヨセミテ国立公園まで一泊二日のドライブ旅行に行ってきたときの旅行記を、大きくてきれいな写真満載で紹介しているサイトです。

そもそもなぜ一日半だけ時間に余裕ができたのかというと、当初3週間の滞在予定だったのが仕事の都合で2ヶ月に延びて飛行機のチケットを変更したときに日にちを一日間違えてしまったためです。土曜日のチケットではなく日曜日のチケットを取ってしまいました。そのため帰国前日の土曜日がまるまる空いてしまったわけです。さらに仕事の最終日の金曜日は、帰国前に片付けないといけない仕事が終わるまで帰れないという状況だったのが、その仕事も夕方4時頃には片付けることができ、思ったより早く事務所を後にすることができました。こうして一日半の時間が空いてしまったわけです。

仕事が早く終わったらヨセミテ国立公園に行きたいなあとは何となく思っていましたが、最終日の仕事の状況が読めなかったため、前もってホテルやレンタカーの予約をしておくことができませんでした。なのでホテルとレンタカーの予約をしたのは、金曜日の夕方4時過ぎ、アパートに戻ってからです。大慌てでホテルとレンタカーを予約して出発しました。

こうして、一泊二日、正確には前泊＋一日観光のヨセミテ国立公園へのドライブ旅行が始まりました。朝ホテルを出発して観光し、夕方には現地を発って、夜までにはサンフランシスコのアパートに戻らないといけないというとても大忙しなスケジュールで、とても広いヨセミテ国立公園をどれだけ見て回ることができるかにチャレンジしました。そこで撮影した写真を大きな画像で皆さんにもご紹介したいと思います。どうぞごゆっくりお楽しみください。

ヨセミテ国立公園ってどこ？

ヨセミテ国立公園の場所は、ちょうどサンフランシスコからまっすぐ東に行ったところ、直線距離にして約160マイル（約260km）のところにあります。下の地図の左手がサンフランシスコ、右手の青いクリップの先がヨセミテ国立公園の場所です。車でサンフランシスコからヨセミテ国立公園まで行くには何通りか方法がありますが、今回はオークランド（Oakland）、モデスト（Modesto）を経由してマーセド（Merced）からヨセミテ国立公園に入るルートを通りました。車での所要時間は約4〜5時間です。ヨセミテ国立公園の北側にはアメリカで2番目の深さを誇る大きな湖、レイクタホもあります。

さあ、ヨセミテ国立公園ドライブ旅行に出発！

前日17:00頃 サンフランシスコを出発

前日22:00頃 マリポサ（Mariposa）のベストウェスタンホテルに到着

7:00 マリポサ（Mariposa）のベストウェスタンホテルを出発

ホテルからヨセミテ国立公園まで約1時間なので、8:00から園内を観光することを目標にして7:00にホテルを出発しました。

7:30 エル・ポータル（El Portal）で通行止め

いきなりトラブル発生です。なんとヨセミテ国立公園を目前にして通行止め。仕方なく迂回路を探します。

9:50 トンネルビュー（Tunnel View）

結局ホテルまで戻って別ルートを通る羽目に。ここに着くまで3時間も掛かってしまい、大幅な時間ロスです。ここからヨセミテバレーの中を観光して回ります。

10:00 エル・キャピタン（El Capitan）

10:10 ヨセミテ滝（Yosemite Falls）

10:30 ロイヤルアーチ（Royal Arches）

10:50 ブライダルベール滝（Bridalveil Fall）

ここでヨセミテバレーの中の観光は終わりです。ヨセミテバレー内の主な観光ポイントを見て回るのに約1時間掛かりました。

12:30 タイオガロード（Tioga Road）の途中の沢

ここから北側の大きな通り、タイオガロード沿いの観光です。

12:50 オルムステッド・ポイント（Olmsted Point）

13:00 テナヤ・レイク（Tenaya Lake）

タイオガロードはまだ先がありますが、今回の旅行ではここまでが限界です。テナヤ・レイクを見て引き返します。

15:10 グレイシャー・ポイント（Glacier Point）

そして最後の観光ポイント、グレイシャー・ポイントです。最初の観光ポイント、トンネルビューからここに来るまで約5時間20分。とても短い時間でしたが、メインとなるヨセミテバレー、北側のタイオガロードを通ってテナヤ・レイク、南側のグレイシャー・ポイント、とメジャーな観光ポイントを一通りカバーすることができました。

20:00頃 サンフランシスコに帰宅

【Rock Threat Closes Part Of Yosemite Park Lodging】
The National Park Service said Friday it will close part of a popular lodging complex at Yosemite National Park because an unstable cliff has created the potential for deadly rockfall. Park officials said 233 cabins will close permanently, or about one-third of the lodging units available at Curry Village to park visitors. About half of the 618 cabins have been off-limits since a rockfall on the historic complex Oct. 8.(2008年11月21日)
管理人コメント：崖崩れの危険性が高いことからCurry Villageの3分の1の宿泊施設が閉鎖されるそうです。対応の遅さに非難の声もあるようです。

【50 Years Later, Climbers Celebrate Scaling El Cap】
Climbing enthusiasts from around the world will gather here this weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary the first climb up the sheer granite face of iconic El Capitan. George Whitmore, Wayne Merry and Warren Harding climbed the 3,000-foot El Capitan in November 1958, a feat many had considered impossible to that point. It took them 47 days over 16 months to complete the climb now done by some in fewer than three hours.(2008年11月6日)
管理人コメント：エル・キャピタンのロッククライミングに初めて成功してから半世紀。当時は何日も掛かったのが、今では数時間で登れるそうです。

【Yosemite visitors treated to a new view】
The famous view of Yosemite Valley at the overlook known as Tunnel View was getting a little rough around the edges, so park officials got out their broad brushes and gave it a little touchup. A half-dozen view-blocking trees were removed, a separate spot for scenic viewing was built, some drainage was inserted underneath it all, and voila, Mother Nature's finest work is better than ever.(2008年10月24日)

【Yosemite National Park rock slide destroys cabins】
Chunks of granite crashed to the Yosemite Valley floor in a cloud of dust Wednesday, injuring at least three people and destroying several cabins and trees at one of the park's most popular lodging areas, officials said. The rock slide was the second in two days in the area called Curry Village, a lodging and retail area defined by dramatic, sheer cliffs.(2008年10月8日)
管理人コメント：Curry Villageで崖崩れが発生しけが人が出た模様です。ヨセミテ国立公園では1996年と1999年にも崖崩れが発生し死傷者が出たそうです。自然はすばらしいものですが、同時に怖いものでもあります。

【Donations help Yosemite Fund get greener】
Yosemite National Park and the University of California at Merced will use a donation of $600,000 and five hybrid vehicles from Toyota to improve environmental education programs. Officials said the donation to the Yosemite Fund -- which raises money for the park -- will be announced at a news conference today at the Merced campus.(2008年9月28日)
管理人コメント：トヨタがヨセミテの環境保護のために寄付をするというニュース。お金だけでなくハイブリッドカーもというところがトヨタらしくていいですね。

【Yosemite bridges now open】
Two interim bridges long enough to accommodate some bus traffic into Yosemite National Park are set to open on a highway that has been buried under a rock slide since 2006. The $8 million project created two bridges on a temporary bypass on state Route 140, a main route into the park. A shorter, emergency bridge had been unable to handle most tour buses and other vehicles longer than 28 feet. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is scheduled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday afternoon.(2008年6月28日)
管理人コメント：先月頭に始まった140号線のバイパス工事が終わりました。シュワルツェネッガー知事もテープカットをするそうです。

【Road closures in the mountains】
Today's storm front may barely have dampened the Bay Area, but it has closed a number of major roads in the Sierra - including two in Yosemite National Park. Tioga Pass and Glacier Point Road both are closed in Yosemite as of 11:30 a.m. because of the presence of icy conditions and several inches of snow.(2008年5月24日)

管理人コメント：ネバダ州方面からの入口にあたるTioga Passが例年より早く開通しました。もう今週末はMemorial Day Holiday Weekendですね。

【Caltrans starts work on bridges to bypass Yosemite rockslide】
The California Department of Transportation has begun building two temporary bridges to bypass a rockslide blocking 1 of the main routes into Yosemite National Park. The $8 million project will again allow tour buses and other extra-long vehicles to use Highway 140 to access the park. A stretch of the highway has been blocked since a rockslide buried it in rubble two years ago.(2008年5月2日)
